English course

From growing vocabulary knowledge, learning basic to complex grammar rules & sentence structures to developing & polishing listening & conversational skills, we offer various classes to meet student’s needs regardless of their age or proficiency, including SEN students. We provide classes to students between the ages 1.5 to 18. Our contents are engaging, stimulating and useful. Our experienced teachers work hard to meet the specific needs of each of our students and ensure that all learning takes place in a fun, interactive and immersive environment. Our ultimate goal is to allow our students to develop a love for the language while at the same time learning how to apply it practically in daily life.

Featured Courses:
 

Phonics

Our Phonics program is designed to help students to learn the phonic knowledge and skills necessary to read and spell words with ease, and to help them build a strong foundation required to become a good English reader. Different combinations (including blends, digraphs, and letter sounds) will be taught, read, and spelt throughout the course.

 

Through a multi-sensory approach and substantial teacher-student interaction, students will become more confident in reading by identifying and blending letters, and spelling by segmenting spoken words into their individual letter sounds.

 

For younger students, they will learn the followings:

 

  • letter names and letter sounds from a-z

  • uppercase & lowercase letters & placement of them on guiding lines

  • pre-writing skills such as correct writing & sitting posture, developing gross and fine motor skills, forming pre-writing shapes and lines, and cross-lateral skills

  • combine letter sounds to make words

  • identify letter sounds in words and segment them to spell

  • gain an awareness of rhyme in words and sentences

Grammar & Writing

Our program is designed to help enhance student’s language capabilities in both grammatical accuracy and proficiency in different types of English writing. It’s combined with the implementation of English grammar together with various writing techniques & structures that allow students to plan effectively by using vocabulary, language forms, stylistic devices as well as brainstorming & mind-mapping through the use of a visual representation of their ideas & thereby able to express more vividly in words and able to generate coherent, thought-provoking, and captivating written compositions.

 

Our goal is to stimulate students’ imagination through various planning and practice-oriented activities which help them to think outside the box & develop their creativity and encourage independent thinking with the ability to express in written language more proficiently and accurately.

 

On the other hand, we encourage collaboration and idea sharing in class that allows students to support and advise one another and at the same time develop a critical mind to identify problems and then fix the errors or inconsistencies in writing.

  • Introduce the basic knowledge of “Parts of Speech”

  • Correctly use Capitalization in writing.

  • Understand singular & plural nouns are different from simple present tense

  • Understand the use of Articles “a”, “an” & “the”.

  • Know the differences between Nouns and Pronouns.

  • Recognize the Subject, Object and Predicate of any sentence.

  • Correctly use Possessive Adjective & Possessive Pronouns & other types of Pronouns

  • Be comfortable with forming sentences with the correct Verb Tenses.

  • Recognize Irregular Verbs.

  • Differentiate between Adjectives and Adverbs and use them properly in sentences.

  • Comparative and Superlative Adjectives

  • In-depth knowledge of different Adverbs

Listening, Speaking & Reading

Our program is designed to help students develop listening & Speaking skills in order to facilitate reading and writing skills. The course focuses on extending speaking and listening skills applying a variety of communicative situations for students to explore in order to improve their confidence and develop basic proficiency in speaking and listening. Such practice will also provide opportunities for language skill development including grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary and pronunciation.

Listening Skills

​

To follow basic everyday communication on familiar topics:

  1. Identify register/style and infer some situational details including relationships.

  2. Identify topic of a conversation on a familiar topic.

  3. Identify a range of common expressions and some factual details.

  4. Follow a set of sequentially presented instructions related to location, movement, etc.

  5. Identify and respond to requests for personal identification and experience, likes and dislikes and details of familiar daily situations.

To listen for discrete items:

  1. Listen for specific information (a. names b. numbers related to weights, measures, amounts and sizes).

  2. Write from dictation.

 

Speaking Skills

To participate in conversations and paired/small group speaking activities:

  1. Introduce self and others, and ask about other person.

  2. Introduce two people.

  3. Open, respond to and end a casual short conversation.

  4. Give short simple everyday instructions and directions.

  5. Relate simple stories.

    • A picture story (external stimulus).

    • An everyday activity.

  6. Describe simple objects and simple daily routines.

  7. Use language functions, including the following:

    • Ask for /give permission.

    • Advise and report danger.

    • Ask for/ accept assistance and advice.

    • Express immediate needs, wants and plans.

  8. Work on pronunciation elements (word stress, vowels and linking) as needed.

  9. Assess own skills as communicators.

 

Accuracy
