COOKING & NUTRITION

A healthy diet is made up from a variety and balance of different foods and drinks, how we can meet a desired nutritional goal by making better food choices and eat smarter will be based on our understanding towards food ingredients, food preparation, nutritional facts & practical cooking. Food education should be introduced & promoted in schools. This yummy curriculum introduces the importance of healthy eating by emphasizing all five food groups using the idea of MyPlate & cooking workshops designed for helping students to learn how to balance good food & eat smart and be able to cook several savoury dishes. Students can learn the importance of a healthy diet & have fun cooking.

This curriculum is also designed to help school students to learn how to track what they cook, identify key food skills demonstrated and review the main ingredients & their nutritious facts, & to develop the skills and knowledge to make and implement healthy food choices. It will also allow teachers to monitor and track students’ achievements, demonstrate progression and provide detailed reports after the workshops.

Our Practical Cooking Workshop:

1. Teaching food preparation &  cooking (equipment, ingredients, functional characteristics, processes and skills).

2. Designing, making and evaluating food.

3. Promoting and applying nutrition.

4.Implementing good food safety and hygiene.

5. Applying aspects of consumer awareness (food origin, food choice, food labeling).

Stretching & Fitness

BEING FIT & HAPPY AT THE SAME TIME!

Many people, including school-age children, don't realize that physical inactivity may have long-term consequences.  We should recognize and value the importance of a physically active lifestyle and the significance of personal physical fitness.

Flexibility is a component of fitness that should be taught at a young age and continue throughout our life.  Stretching allows our muscle’s to loosen up when tight and makes us more mobile.  Flexibility prevents injury, improves posture, and makes cardio activities a lot easier.

The focus of this workshop is to preform some stretching exercises and to show students how to stretch correctly and how to improve flexibility; also, to demonstrate non-locomotor movement such as stretching while enhancing flexibility of muscles and demonstrating proper breathing techniques.

Everyone is at a different level of flexibility and understanding of how to perform the stretch. We should refrain from all negative comments and most importantly is to have fun.

Fun Fitness activities can motivate students to not only be active, but to also experience the joy of activity without the drudgery of tedious and repetitive exercises.

Our Stretching & Fitness workshop:

1. Knowing about why we stretch.

2. Learn about major muscle groups.

3. Develop a stretching routine to do as a pre-activity before vigorous exercise (warm-up stretching).

4. Learn basic muscle strength/endurance exercises (including different types of neck & shoulders, arms, back, hips & legs stretch).

By the end of the workshop:

1. Students will be able to perform various stretching and flexibility movements through dynamic and static exercises.

2. Students will understand the proper technique  for flexibility and stability exercises that are essential to all components of fitness.

3. Students will value the knowledge and benefits to flexibility and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
